Affinité
Exhibited at Galerie 45, Affinité is a publication proposing a new methodology through which art and fashion may once again converge. Grounded in the principles of anti-form [late 1960s artistic movement within Process Art where art embraces chance and process] and anti-fashion [1990s post-modernist fashion intervention challenging social norms and rejecting superficiality], the project seeks to dissolve the boundaries between the two disciplines by prioritizing material behavior, privileging process over product, and embracing the unpredictability of form.
This publication and concept emerged from my need and want to bridge my universes, art and fashion, bringing back the relationship they had in the past. It is by melding fashion (an enlarged waistband skirt from Martin Margiela’s S/S 2001 collection) and art (Robert Morris’s “Untitled” 1960) that I created a new structure encompassing my topic. I then sewed it together in the form of a skirt and shot it to create the base visuals for this book that were then augmented by image disruptions.
